hydraulic cylinder SEAL KITS

Why are seal kits so frequently wrong? We have the answers.

WHY IS MY SEAL KIT WRONG?

On the surface, hydraulic cylinders are not overly complicated. Pressure is fed in, and work is performed. When it comes time to rebuild a cylinder, however, things can get a bit messy, particularly if you attempt to order a seal kit from the manufacturer or a third party seller. Why do seal kits frequently get it wrong, and what can be done to get things right the first time?

Manufacturing & Cataloging Difficulties

The fact is, most manufacturers are continually changing suppliers and equipment specifications, making the job of cataloging individual items like hydraulic cylinder seals extremely difficult. Even with the specific model information, dealers and third party shops are at a disadvantage when ordering a seal kit because the factory supplied spec is frequently wrong. As equipment ages, the job can become even more difficult as cylinders get replaced or rebuilt.

These issues can lead to increased downtime, and can add cost to the rebuild if the seals are non-returnable, which is frequently the case. (Hey, that dealer doesn’t have any use for those incorrect seals either, right?)

How to Rebuild Hydraulic Cylinders Right the First Time

Given the difficulties of ordering seal kits and getting the right thing, the best path to doing the job once and getting it right is to see what’s in the cylinder before ordering. At Acme, we disassemble every cylinder and custom order the seals. This provides a number of advantages:

Getting it right

We’re eliminating the guesswork and taking production variances out of the equation, ensuring you get the right seals the first time

Getting it FAST

We typically turn around cylinders in 2-3 days, and you get an assembled, tested cylinder back with a 90-day warranty

Getting it economically

Because we buy at scale and custom order our seals, we typically can provide a full-service rebuild with a warranty without adding significantly to the cost of a factory seal kit

What if I need more than Seals?

Stuff happens, and sometimes that stuff leads to bent rods, dented barrels, broken hydraulic fittings, and a variety of other issues. The machine shop at Acme Auto Parts is equipped to build new cylinder components and get you back to work if an economical replacement can’t be found or is months out.
